Immediate Help When Your Eyes Need It Most

If you experience an eye emergency, your safety and vision are our top priorities. For urgent issues during office hours, call Ham’s Superior Vision Centre right away so we can do our very best to see you as soon as possible.

If your emergency happens after hours or you experience severe pain, sudden vision loss, or trauma, please proceed immediately to the nearest emergency department. When in doubt, do not delay seeking emergency care.

When to Seek Emergency Eye Care

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek immediate care either at Ham’s Superior Vision Centre (during office hours) or at an emergency room:

  • Chemical splash to the eyes
  • Sudden vision loss or changes in vision
  • Severe eye pain
  • Eye bleeding or discharge
  • Eye injury with embedded objects

Common Eye Emergencies We Treat

Our team at Ham’s Superior Vision Centre are trained to handle a variety of urgent eye conditions, including:

  • Flashes and floaters: Sudden flashes of light or an increase in floaters can be warning signs of retinal detachment or tears, which require prompt attention.
  • Corneal abrasions: Scratches or injuries to the surface of your eye can cause pain, redness, and sensitivity to light. Early treatment prevents infection and promotes healing.
  • Blunt force trauma: Impact injuries can cause swelling, bruising, or internal eye damage. It is important to have your eyes evaluated quickly.
  • Chemical exposure: If chemicals get in your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek emergency care. Quick action reduces the risk of serious damage.
  • Foreign objects in the eye: Dirt, dust, or debris can cause discomfort or injury. Do not try to remove embedded objects yourself; seek professional care.
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye): Infectious conjunctivitis can spread quickly and requires diagnosis and management to reduce symptoms and prevent transmission.

Protecting Your Eyes from Injury

Preventing eye emergencies is always the best strategy. Here are some quick tips to keep your eyes safe:

  • Wear protective eyewear when working with tools, chemicals, or playing sports.
  • Keep household chemicals and cleaners out of reach of children.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes if you feel irritation or foreign bodies inside.
  • Practice good hygiene, especially during cold and flu season, to prevent contagious eye infections.

Eye emergencies can be stressful, but you don’t have to face them alone. Contact Ham’s Superior Vision Centre at the first sign of trouble, and we’ll prioritize your care to protect your vision and comfort.
